JINGLE FOR JUSTICE

Creators who submit may hear their jingle on the radio or on online or even see their submission as part of a Get Out The Vote campaign funded by Michigan Liberation Action Fund or others!

In 2024, voters will go to the polls to elect two members of the Michigan State Supreme Court using the non-partisan section of the ballot.  The Michigan State Supreme Court - the highest court in the state– has the power to impact our everyday lives on issues like Reproductive Rights, Equality, Labor and Employment Law, and Protecting our Right to Vote.  However, hundreds of thousands of voters make it to the polls and then skip or forget to vote for the Michigan State Supreme Court.

You know how sometimes you can’t get a song out of your head? Well, what if that was a message about who you’re voting for in the Michigan State Supreme Court?

Michigan Liberation Action Fund is hosting a contest for the best songs or videos that could be the viral trend that reminds voters who to vote for and how to find those folks on the ballot.

Creators can submit their videos and audio files until Saturday, October 5th  through Wednesday, October 16th.  We’ll run an online voting contest from October 17th - 24th at MIJingleforJustice.com where people can vote for their favorite jingle. Winners will be announced by Tuesday, October 29, 2024.  The submission receiving the most votes will receive $2,500!

Here’s who Michigan Liberation Action Fund is supporting:

Kimberly Ann Thomas is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer and law professor at the University of Michigan Law School. Kimberly directs the Juvenile Justice Clinic, where she teaches students the ethical practice of law and works to improve the lives of Michigan youth. Kimberly will bring a new voice of integrity and fairness, grounded in her knowledge applying the law and dedication to equal justice for all Michiganders.

Justice Kyra Harris Bolden is serving in her second year on the Michigan Supreme Court and remains committed to ensuring equal access to justice, applying the law without fear or favor, and treating all who come before our state’s highest court with dignity and respect. In her first year, she had the distinct honor of authoring three majority opinions, one unanimous.

Here’s why many people don’t vote for Michigan State Supreme Court candidates:

  • They think their “straight ticket vote” casts a vote for the Michigan State Supreme Court, but it doesn’t.  Voters have to individually vote for their preferred candidates in the nonpartisan section of the ballot.

  • They don’t know where the nonpartisan section of the ballot is.  While it varies across the state of Michigan, the nonpartisan section is usually near the bottom–or the back–of the ballot.

  • They don't know much about the candidates. To learn more about the candidates, you can visit michigandecides.com
